Showcases
Showcase: Big Data
Constant technological progress and global networking produce more data than ever before. There are already several billion mobile devices in use today. Global mobile data traffic will exceed 10 exabytes by the year 2016. With the Internet of Things, experts forecast more than 125 billion RFID labels by the year 2020.
The great challenge facing public institutions and businesses is mastering this flood of data. It is less an issue of recording and managing these enormous data streams than enabling rapid analysis to derive the relevant information and use it in targeted, real-time measures. This will enable entirely new applications and business models—for example, in payment transactions, making travel reservations or in the logistics field. Our Big Data and Real-Time Analytics showcase demonstrates how you can use in-memory technology from Software AG to successfully implement your big data strategy.
Showcase: Industry 4.0
For the second time, Software AG launched an international idea competition for universities. The objective was to develop an innovative showcase for CeBIT 2013 that presents Software AG technology for business process management in an engaging, real-world context.
The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) from Kaiserslautern won the competition with its DFKI SmartFactoryKL and will present a model for a smart factory of the future at Software AG's trade show stand. This production scenario will demonstrate how augmented reality can transform a manual production station into a software-supported, context-sensitive work environment.
This showcase presents the tangible benefits of Industry 4.0 as a new paradigm for the production of tomorrow. The ARIS platform will be used in this project to visualize the manual production steps and key performance indicators.
Showcase: Business Process Management
This showcase presents how Brazil’s PDG S.A. improved process transparency and increased efficiency in real-estate financing. Speed is also a decisive competitive factor for PDG. This example demonstrates how credit check processes can be made more efficient in a construction project. With the help of webMethods and ARIS, Brazil’s largest construction and real estate company was able to reduce the time required for the credit analysis and contract management process from one week to one hour. The result: PDG significantly accelerated its business—and lowered its processing costs per transaction.
Innovation Center
At CeBIT 2013, we will present innovative solutions for the digital enterprise and set global trends. At the Innovation Center—in the middle of Software AG’s booth at CeBIT—you can use multimedia touchscreens to experience the latest product innovations in big data, cloud, mobile and social business.
We’ll show you how to best use these trends for a successful, agile business in global competition.
The Innovation Center focuses on:
- Big Data Management, Software AG’s new platform for managing and analyzing huge data volumes in real-time
- Process Management with Software AG’s solution for BPM
- Cloud-to-Cloud Integration for integrating and automating applications
- Data Management 2.0 for developing and running efficient, transaction-oriented applications
Take advantage of this opportunity to visit Software AG's booth to learn more about the latest trends at CeBIT 2013. Talk to one of our Software AG experts about the advantages of the new versions of ARIS, webMethods, Terracotta and Adabas-Natural.
We look forward to your visit!

Booth overview

Big data in the public sector
Big data management is a relatively new theme in the public sector, but it is moving closer to the forefront to meet technical requirements. Just as in the private sector, public administration and government agencies need to process, analyze and compile growing volumes of data. And in-memory technology offers decisive advantages here. With Terracotta from Software AG, you can access huge volumes of in-memory data, and search, manage and scale these data sets. Furthermore, Terracotta helps to ensure the availability of in-memory data. Use this cost-effective data storage option to overcome performance bottlenecks and scale cost efficiently. Why Terracotta? - Find out in two minutes!
Fact sheet Terracotta / BigMemoryProcess data accelerator / P23R
The P23R principle includes a concept that will make sharing data between businesses and public administrations faster, more efficient and secure. Germany currently has more than 10,000 mandatory business registrations, which generate more than €50 billion in bureaucratic costs for businesses every year. The Deployment Board and Process Chain Forum committees were established to discuss concepts and results from the P23R project with experts.
Please feel free to ask our experts at CeBIT about it.
You can also learn more at our showcase about the x-trans.eu project, which was implemented using the P23R principle for processing cross-border heavy load shipments.
For more information about x-trans.eu click here.
E-files
Software AG is also pursuing a promising course in the area of document and information management. SOA combined with BPM unite administrative processes and the heterogeneous IT landscape of information storage systems (e.g., archives, document management systems, email and file servers). At the same time, an intelligent authorization system ensures the security and relevance of data and functions for users.
Software AG’s e-files system is based on the webMethods Content Service Platform (CSP). The CSP is a component of the webMethods product suite that was specially developed for document and information management in heterogeneous IT landscapes that have grown over time. The CSP’s architecture and interfaces offer the opportunity to integrate existing and new business applications.
Process automation
We will push ahead on the theme of process automation for boosting efficiency in production controlling in 2013. To this end, we have joined forces with Dataport, a service provider for public administrations in the German states of Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and soon Saxony-Anhalt, to create a controlling prototype for process automation in production controlling.
With this prototype, which demonstrates the ITIL business process for event management, we want to show you how:
- Processes and procedures can be managed with IT support
- You can manage, measure and monitor your processes
- You can continually improve your processes
A picture is worth 1,000 words! So come visit us in the Public Sector Parc and talk to our experts on-site.Schedule Overview – Public Sector Parc

SmartFactoryKL: Industry 4.0 - Intelligent operator support based on augmented reality
Currently the German Industry 4.0 research program is propagated as a new paradigm for manufacturing: merging the virtual IT world with the physical factory world. Modular, decentralized factory structures composed of smart devices and products—the so-called “Cyber-Physical Systems" (CPS) are the key components. CPS is networked via a unified communication architecture using WLAN and Ethernet and can act and communicate autonomously. Ident-Technologies, such as RFID, AR tags and QR codes, will provide ubiquitous access to the underlying information, and augmented reality will become the key technology to connect the physical and virtual world.
The key feature of the Augmented Reality is that content is made available in the right context and moment. Google’s conceptual study Project Glass, for example, has awakened public enthusiasm for augmented reality by demonstrating how lightweight, mobile hardware combined with contextual information enables powerful personal applications to seamlessly support everyday needs. What is promising as an application for the daily life could also be beneficial for manufacturing, as this presentation will show.Dipl. Ing. Dominic Gorecky, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Smart Factory

Sylvia Bühler, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, President ARIS User Group
Christian Zimmermann, Software AG, Director MarketingBusiness model and process model: Competitor or confederate
Conceptual business modeling is increasingly in focus of contemporary research. There is a strict distinction between business modeling and process modeling. Although, especially in service industries, many business ideas are process-oriented, business model frameworks merely cover key activities. These key activities are only rarely put into a timely and logical sequence. Moreover, it is questionable whether process models fulfill all functions of conceptual business models. In this talk, a method for the design of process-oriented business models is presented. The creation of this method was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the research project KollaPro. Partners were the University of Muenster, Software AG, best practice consulting AG, and Durable Hunke & Jochheim GmbH & Co. KG.
Prof. Dr. Dr. Björn Niehaves, Professor for E-Governance and Innovation, Hertie School of Governance GmbH
FACT: Handling retirement pension products in asset management
Unit-linked insurance and company pension scheme products focusing on capital market have grown steadily and represent nowadays significant values in the portfolio structure of institutional investors. Nevertheless in-house handling and process have to keep in step with the external growth to guarantee continuous level of efficiency and client service.
FIRST, a software product for the assets inventory management, can support the respective process steps with modules designed for these purposes. Internal systems (e.g., contracting) as well as external systems (e.g., custodian and broker) can be linked for achieving high levels of efficiency. Moreover, functional requirements, such as disposition of units and company-oriented tax reporting, are covered in the same solution-based way.
