Capabilities
ARIS SOA Architect
Build your SOA on business processes
Describe, plan and manage a business-driven SOA using ARIS SOA Architect. The software uses the industry-recognized OASIS SOA reference model, the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) and the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) standard for describing executable business processes. Wizards make it easy to import, export, describe and structure services.
Service categorization
The first step in any SOA project is to record the business processes and supporting IT environment. ARIS SOA Architect offers a host of options for categorizing business services just for this purpose. You can describe and arrange each service capability in your SOA and then filter services for easy access to your service portfolio.
By organizing services into categories, you can reduce the time spent on service management by up to 20 percent.
Modeling in BPEL
ARIS SOA Architect uses BPEL to describe how Web services are linked to each other chronologically in order to implement a business process. It’s highly technical and IT-oriented. You can model BPEL graphically and then export those models to the official BPEL XML format for transfer to an execution platform.
Exported BPEL processes can be executed on IBM WebSphere, Oracle SOA Suite, BEA WebLogic, SAP® XI and other platforms.

ARIS service browser
It’s often not easy to see which service can support a business function in a business process. That’s why ARIS SOA Architect provides an innovative search function to locate services that match specific business requirements.

Integration with ARIS UML Designer
Use UML diagrams to create technical descriptions of existing services and then re-use those descriptions to create new services. UML diagrams in ARIS can also be used to generate code.
Automatic process mapping
The software automatically maps the business process steps and service descriptions to determine if suitable technical services exist to support business process activities. Additionally, by mapping your SOA, you’ll see a visual overview of the service portfolio.
Automatically generated BPEL processes
BPEL too technical? That’s no problem. ARIS SOA Architect also offers an innovative Event-driven Process Chain (EPC)-to-BPEL and EPC-to-BPMN transformation feature that transforms business process models automatically into executable processes.
This automatic transformation greatly simplifies and accelerates synchronizing business requirements and technical execution.
WSDL support
Web Services Description Language (WSDL) is a recognized industry standard for describing Web services. ARIS SOA Architect enables you to import and graphically display existing WSDL descriptions. UML models are used here. Semantic descriptions can be added to the imported Web services. The data formats used by the Web service are also imported and incorporated into the enterprise-wide data model.
Central ARIS repository
A central SOA repository lines your business processes and your service landscape. Here, you’ll store all the business and technical elements of your SOA for easy re-use. By re-using models that describe IT environments, for example, you can cut implementation costs dramatically.
By combining elements from both the business and systems layers of an SOA, the ARIS repository reveals interdependencies so you can make informed decisions. With a click of the mouse, you can see which services are used in any process. Should a service fail, you can quickly find out which processes are impacted and take action.
