FAQs

What is CentraSite ActiveSOA? How is it different from CentraSite Governance Edition and CentraSite Enterprise Edition?

CentraSite ActiveSOA 8 is the latest version of CentraSite. It’s the successor to both CentraSite Governance Edition and CentraSite Enterprise Edition. You gain the functionalities of both previous products in one comprehensive offering.

What is CentraSite Community Edition? How is it different from CentraSite ActiveSOA?

The Community Edition is a free-of-charge version of CentraSite. Download it now. You’ll see this edition offers basic registry functionality. Use it to explore CentraSite’s basic capabilities before advancing to the ActiveSOA edition, which provides full governance and lifecycle management capabilities.

Is CentraSite ActiveSOA integrated with the rest of the webMethods suite?

CentraSite is the Business Services Repository for webMethods 8. It offers built-in support for webMethods suite assets and native integration with the webMethods Designer Integrated Development Environment (IDE). You’ll find it’s easy to publish process and services assets into CentraSite. Using the repository, you also can search for existing services and processes for re-use to reduce development time. webMethods Designer works with CentraSite to show a complete view of business processes and their dependencies to SOA artifacts, such as services.

We have standardized on a different platform vendor for our middleware solutions. Is CentraSite only usable in a Software AG environment?

No. CentraSite is an open, vendor-neutral lifecycle management and governance solution. You can use CentraSite to manage assets from any application and middleware platform. CentraSite offers support for industry standards, such as JAXR, UDDI, WS* and WS-I. CentraSite also offers a variety of ways to integrate with your environment, including a Web-based interface, IDE plug-ins and APIs.

Our company is focused on .NET as a technology platform. Can we use CentraSite?

Yes. CentraSite is platform- and technology-agnostic. That means you can import and manage services described by a WSDL, no matter the implementation technology. You also can look up services managed in CentraSite using MicroSoft VisualStudio’s UDDI capabilities.

Does CentraSite support staging concepts (like dev/test/prod)?

Yes. CentraSite offers a wide degree of deployment options, from a single instance covering all lifecycle phases up to a multi-instance deployment that reflects your approach to staging, from development to production.
