Modeling Standards
Different stakeholders need to interpret model content in the same way. That’s where modeling standards come in. Modeling standards define process model elements and their meaning. They enable efficient and collaborative Business Process Management (BPM) across corporate boundaries and disciplines.
ARIS Platform supports these standards:
| STANDARD | SUPPORT BY ARIS |
|---|---|
| BPEL | Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) is a technical standard used to describe executable integration-oriented process models. Execution of the business functions is handled by Web services. Using ARIS SOA Architect & Designer, you can model and export BPEL processes. |
| BPMN | Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) 2.0 is a standard for modeling business processes. It’s technically oriented. BPMN models are available in ARIS Business Architect & Designer, ARIS IT Architect & Designer, ARIS SOA Architect & Designer and ARIS Business Architect for SAP. |
| EPC | Event-driven Process Chains (EPCs) are a leading industry standard for modeling business processes. A business-oriented notation enables non-technical users to document and optimize their workflows quickly and easily. ARIS supports process representation of EPCs in ARIS Business Architect & Designer, ARIS IT Architect & Designer, ARIS SOA Architect & Designer, ARIS Process Governance and ARIS Business Architect for SAP. |
| UML | Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a comprehensive modeling standard for describing software designs. It helps bridge the gap between the business-friendly solution design and detailed design of software systems. UML modeling is fully integrated with ARIS UML Designer and ARIS SOA Architect & Designer. |
| WSDL | Web Services Description Language (WSDL) is a standard for describing Web service interfaces. It’s used to model the available operations, including the addresses for calling them. Using ARIS SOA Architect & Designer, you can graphically display WSDL descriptions as well import and export them. |
| XPDL | XML Process Definition Language (XPDL) is a technical standard used to describe executable human-oriented process models. Execution of the business functions is handled mainly by users, yet can be accomplished by Web services too. Using ARIS SOA Architect & Designer, you can export processes into XPDL. |
| XSD | XML Schema Definition (XSD) is a standard for describing data exchanged between web services. XML Schema is a complex language for describing an XML type system. This XML type system comprises the specification of new XML elements, their attributes as well as their derived elements. Using ARIS SOA Architect & Designer, you can graphically display XSD descriptions as well import and export them. |
