Please note:
Environmental badge: If you plan to drive your own car in Berlin, please note that Berlin, like other German cities, requires an environmental badge or sticker for cars in the city’s green zone, which includes the Maritim Hotel. All drivers wishing to travel within this area (including foreign cars) have to purchase a so called environmental badge and display it in their front windshield. The badge is about 5,50 Euro. Without this badge drivers will incur a fine of 40,00 Euro and one penalty point with Germany’s federal department of motor vehicles.
Rental cars, however, come with an environmental badge. You can order the badge yourself online at www.umwelt-plakette24.de (for foreign cars use this form), or contact the hotel concierge for assistance.
The environmental badge supports an effort to reduce pollution in an environmental zone by restricting the amount of traffic permitted within the central urban area. The zone is defined as the area within the S-Bahn railway belt (Ringbahn).
Car rentals: available at both Schönefeld and Tegel airports.
Important note: Car rental companies are often fully booked in Berlin. If you want to rent a car, it is strongly recommended that you make a reservation two weeks in advance.
