However, the various data sources were siloed, manually downloaded, and exported.
“This manual process was unsustainable as it was subject to human error and time consuming to pull together insights,” explained Abiodun Gandonu, Senior Manager of Data Platform & Engineering at Sabra. Unfortunately, this meant the business couldn’t receive real-time data, which made it much harder to make data-driven decisions and identify new opportunities for growth.
Sabra needed to find an easy-to-use data integration platform to bring together the multiple data sources that would enable timely insights for operational decisions and efficiency gains, while maintaining the highest quality products and consumer satisfaction.
Sabra implemented StreamSets to address their data integration challenges. Without disrupting Sabra’s current operations, Sabra used StreamSets Data Collector to bring their robust on-prem JSON, PARQUET, CSV and Excel formats of data from Microsoft Azure into their Snowflake Data Cloud Platform.
The Technology team found the Data Collector user interface easy to learn and use when building pipelines and orchestrating jobs. Now they have a centralized view to monitor all their data flows, prevent data drift, and maintain data consistency with over 166 data pipelines spanning batch, CDC, and streaming data.
Using StreamSets Transformer for Snowflake (a GUI-driven transformation tool built to leverage the power of Snowflake), Sabra can easily transform complex data, merge, and prepare data for modeling and reporting in Snowflake in just minutes. Collecting point-of-sale data through API requests, Sabra can now ingest this API data into a JSON format, transform, and store it in a structure ready for modeling. They are also able to transform non-compliance characters in CSV files. With streamlined data integration and enhanced data transformation, the Technology team was able to build Power BI dashboards for the business functions, allowing for improved utilization of data-driven decision-making.

The impact the Sabra team has seen thus far has been substantial. Their focus on transformed data and its connectivity is driving results in both the top and bottom lines, positively impacting their total cost of ownership.
With the accelerated development of data integration pipelines and business data modeling, the Technology team is quickly processing data with a complete line of sight into all orchestration jobs and enhanced reporting capabilities. “The improvement is remarkable, from multiple days down to less than 3 hours, with an overall 75% productivity lift,” said Gandonu.

Using the BI dashboards, Sabra’s R&D team can easily visualize opportunities for new product development. Its Marketing team can now democratize their point-of-sale data more broadly, decreasing the need for ad hoc requests and allowing them to provide the business with insights into total performance in market share segments. This intelligence guided the focus for the Sales team’s sales strategies, targets, and goals. Leveraging customer and point-of-sale data also provides the Marketing team with the insights to create meaningful marketing and advertising campaigns to optimize sales and customer experiences.
