Budgeting for Business Innovation with IT Portfolio Management
2:30 pm - 3:15 pm · October 15, 2014
Budgeting is, for many IT organizations, a slow-going and error-prone process. This is mainly due to budget data existing in many silos and formats, each managed by different budget stakeholders. The lack of a centralized, uniform view onto IT cost drivers and how they relate to each other and the business hinders IT in budgeting for business innovation. Establishing an IT portfolio management practice helps understand the relationships between application, projects and technologies and this in the context of business capabilities. It enables IT budgeters to see whether trimming certain IT initiatives put the business at risk, where to retire obsolete or redundant applications rather than cutting important investments into the future and how to match IT spending to business drivers.
