Darmstadt, Germany, 12/6/2016

Software AG today announced that Gartner, Inc., a leading industry analyst firm, has named Software AG a Leader in its ‘Magic Quadrant for Integrated IT Portfolio Analysis Applications’ report (published on Nov. 22, 2016*) for its Alfabet solution. Alfabet offers management and governance capabilities across multiple IT portfolios to provide the CIO and other leaders with the information they need in order to make broad, directional and strategic decisions. It enhances communication and collaboration among different IT portfolio managers and helps them understand the symbiotic relationships between the business strategy and demand, technology, application and project portfolios while also taking finance and risk perspectives into consideration.

Software AG’s Alfabet IT Planning and Portfolio Management platform was evaluated among 8 different software vendors on 15 criteria. According to Gartner®, “Leading products aggressively strive to integrate the planned execution of change to the IT footprint in response to the needs of the business, using portfolio management as a foundation. These products can analyze the cost and progress of the IT response to the business and IT strategy, and deliver the right perspectives, analysis and impact views required by CIOs, IT portfolio managers and other business leaders.”

Dr. Wolfram Jost, Chief Technology Officer and member of the Board, Software AG, said: “As an integral part of Software AG’s Digital Business Platform, Alfabet provides the wide range of vision across the enterprise needed to harmonize diverse and distributed transformation programs. We believe Software AG’s positioning in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant demonstrates its strength in meeting the needs of today’s digitalization initiatives helping CIO’s and other senior stakeholders embark on such strategic initiatives with surety and determination.”

New release 9.12 provides integration with ServiceNow, Centrasite and Amazon Web Services

Alfabet has the richest set of portfolios in the industry encompassing applications, technologies, projects, services, business capabilities, demands, processes, strategies, vendors, risks and more. The views into these portfolios and their dependencies with each other ensure exceptional ability to analyze the impact of planned changes to help guide transformation decisions. The new Alfabet release 9.12 provides integration with other systems of record to enrich the portfolios with even more planning-relevant information to ensure sound decisions. The integration with ServiceNow, for example, relates data from the CMDB and associated IT service management on IT deployments and locations, performance metrics and actual changes to Alfabet to better understand change impact on deployed IT, obtain intelligence for portfolio analysis and be assured that deployed IT follows strategy. The new interoperability with Software AG’s CentraSite supports implementation of effective services governance with end-to-end service life-cycle management from planning to execution. Release 9.12’s cloud discovery feature for Amazon Web Services allows customers to read their Amazon Web Services (AWS®) footprint into Alfabet to have cloud-based applications and AWS services become part of their architectural inventory to be used in creating cloud-ready solutions. Once in Alfabet, cloud assets can be assessed, compared to cloud services blueprints and used to understand the business dependencies and risks associated with a company’s AWS deployment.

EA is an essential component of IT portfolio decision-making

As IT organizations mature in their ability to manage their digital services portfolios, they see the interdependencies among the various portfolios (demand, application, technology, project etc.). They realize that an integrated view is necessary in order to assess the across-the-board requirements for transformation to a digital business with innovative digital products and services. Understanding these and the inter-portfolio impact of proposed change to the IT landscape helps guide investment decisions and avoids potentially damaging cost-cutting measures. EA provides IIPA with the insight into the IT landscape. The Gartner report states: “IIPA customers are generating integrated portfolio views of IT investments, IT projects and programs, and IT assets and applications. Identifying the points of intersection between elements in these portfolios and "desired state" models created from enterprise architecture (EA) helps IT align the decisions it makes in any IT portfolio with current IT strategy. Seeing the potential collisions or contradictions between future-state EA models and elements in different IT portfolios can help uncover areas of redundancy and waste.” Software AG was also positioned as a Leader in Gartner’s recent “Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools” (published: May 3, 2016)
